Privacy policy

This policy covers the website. It doesn't cover the Aurora apps for Android, Windows and Linux (beta), or the services you connect to them.

The website has no advertising, analytics or visitor profiles, and you never need an account. Its only outside requests fetch public project data from GitHub.

What stays in your browser

Feature search, filters, the figures and their controls run in the page. Nothing you type or choose is submitted or saved, except the two preferences described under Local storage.

The website doesn't read your music files, server sign-ins, library or listening history from the Aurora apps.

Some figures can play a short test signal made in your browser by the Web Audio API, only after you press a play button. Nothing is recorded, the page never asks for your microphone, and no audio files are downloaded.

Fonts and images

Typefaces (Archivo, Chivo Mono, and small Noto subsets for the languages figure) are served with the website, not from a font service. App screenshots and the album covers in the figures are files on this website too.

The home page, Revision history and Download request public data from GitHub's API: release information, download counts, stars, commits and contributor details. Contributor pictures load from GitHub's image server. These connections give GitHub your IP address and normal browser connection details.

A page asks only when its live panel is near the screen, and at most once every ten minutes; until then it reuses the copy it saved. The requests don't carry GitHub sign-in details, and the site uses the data only to show project activity, never to identify visitors. GitHub handles them under its privacy statement, including its retention and international transfers.

No other host is contacted. Download, issue and contribution links open github.com when you follow them.

    Reports, contributions and downloads

    Issue reports, feature requests, pull requests and downloads open GitHub. If you submit a report or contribution, your GitHub profile and what you share may be public and stay in the project's history. It's used to discuss, reproduce and fix issues, and to review contributions.

    Share only what the report needs. Remove passwords, access tokens and private server addresses from screenshots and logs. GitHub's own terms and privacy controls apply when you use it.

    Your choices

    You can clear this site's browser storage at any time. Blocking storage leaves the site usable, though live GitHub numbers may then need more requests. Turning off JavaScript stops the live GitHub activity from loading; the specification, download links and these policies still work.

    Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, to restrict or object to its use, and to complain to your data protection authority. GitHub has its own controls and request process for information it holds.
